Driver License Restoration Process After a DUI

Not having a license can be a very difficult thing to deal with. Constantly trying to arrange rides, trying to prove your age and identity identity, or writing or cashing checks, losing your license proves how complicated life can be without one. Getting your driving privileges restored is a complicated process that is much easier to accomplish with the help of an experienced drunk driving defense attorney. Keep in mind, it is possible for an individual to have his or her license revoked permanently, depending on how many drunk driving convictions appear on the individuals record for a specific time period (two drunk driving convictions within a seven year time period will result in your license being revoked for life).

In Michigan, you must request a hearing with the Secretary of State's DAAD in order to have your license restored. There are many requirements in terms of documentation and  substance abuse evaluation forms that must be prepared by a qualified professional. These documents essentially indicates to those who hear your case what testing instruments were used and what the results of those tests were, treatment and relapse history, diagnoses, etc. You'll need letters of recommendation that outline and detail information related to your drinking habits. These letters serve as proof to hearing officers that you have gained control of your drinking habits and that you will not be a risk in the future if your license is restored (these letters also must be notarized).

In the State of Michigan, if you attempt to have your license restored and it fails, you will have to wait one full year before you can request another hearing. With each failed attempt, the next request becomes even more difficult as officers review past hearings to determine why your license was not restored.
